What is Stillpoint?

Stillpoint Festival is a new three-day celebration of environment, art, film, and community presented by Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook. The festival takes place September 17–19 across multiple locations in Kimberley.

How did it start?

Stillpoint began with a bold idea. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour invited hosts to imagine extraordinary screening locations. Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook submitted a mountaintop Summit Screening concept—and won. From there, the idea expanded into a larger community celebration.

What inspired its name?

The name Stillpoint was inspired by those moments in nature that stop us in our tracks—inviting us to pause, be present, and take it all in. As summer gives way to fall, the festival creates space to slow down and immerse yourself in art, stories, and the spirit of community.

Why did the Summit Screening expand into a weekend-long festival?

Wildsight Kimberley / Cranbrook has hosted an annual Banff World Tour screening as a fundraiser for well over 30 years. Last year, our team won a contest to host a one-of-a-kind Summit Screening featuring different films from the January 2026 lineups, including the audience choice award winner. As planning got underway and we realized the mountaintop venue’s limited capacity, we started thinking about how to create a bigger experience for the whole community to enjoy. The Stillpoint Festival was born so more of you could gather, connect through stories, and imagine what’s possible—together.

What films will be playing at the flagship Summit Screening?

The Flagship Summit Screening on Saturday, September 19 will feature a fresh lineup of six Banff World Tour 50th Anniversary films. Titles include Cold Calls Japan, The Hive Architect, A Baffin Vacation, Love on Ice, and 2025 Audience Choice Award winner Best Day Ever. From skiing and beekeeping to downhill biking and big wall climbing, these films from around the globe will bring universal passion and stoke to the top of North Star mountain.

What other programming is in the works?

We believe meaningful experiences should be accessible to all. That’s why we’ve expanded the Summit Screening into this 3-day festival offering a range of options, from free and low-cost events to premium ticketed mountaintop experiences.

In addition to the flagship Summit Screening, special programming includes an expanded Farmers’ Market, Block Party on Deer Park Ave., roaming circus performances, a local and youth film showcase, outdoor group activities, film industry panel and workshop with the Kootenay Screen-Based Industry (KSBI), Pre-Screening Plaza Party featuring outdoor gear market and repair with KORE Outdoors, and a Stemwinder After Party.

How can community members get involved?

Volunteering is a great way to enjoy this event, engage with the community, and support Wildsight Kimberley/Cranbrook’s environmental projects. Opportunities are available both in the lead-up to the festival and during the festival itself. Volunteer tasks will include fundraising, awareness building, setup, takedown, ticketing attendants, and production assistants. As a thank you, volunteers will receive access to select ticketed festival events. The summit screening will only be accessible to the limited volunteer roles required onsite and, due to expected demand, those positions will be assigned by lottery.

Summit Screening & Peak Experience

Is the Summit Screening/Peak Experience accessible?

The Summit Screening takes place in an alpine environment and is not fully accessible. The experience requires chairlift access, walking on uneven mountain terrain, and navigating sloped surfaces.

The Peak Experience includes approximately 300 metres of walking from the chairlift arrival area to the Kootenay Haus. The screening area itself is located approximately 80 metres from the chairlift and requires walking downhill on a sloped uneven surface.

The event will continue into the evening and after sunset, meaning guests should be prepared for changing temperatures, reduced visibility, and nighttime conditions in a mountain environment.

Is there an age requirement?

The Peak Experience is a 19+ event. Designed as an intimate alpine cocktail experience, the evening includes licensed beverage service and entertainment intended for a mature audience. Government-issued photo ID may be required for entry.

The Summit Screening is open to guests 10 years of age and older (updated July 31). All guests under the age of 19 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the duration of the event.

Please note that the screening takes place in the evening and extends into nighttime. Guests should be prepared for outdoor conditions and a late finish.

Will there be a waiver?

Yes. All Summit Screening and Peak Experience guests will be handed a waiver prior to participating by a Kimberley Alpine Resort Staff. Waivers will also be required for select Nature Connect activities offered as part of the festival programming.

What should I bring?

The Summit Screening is an outdoor mountain experience that takes place into the evening. We recommend dressing for changing mountain conditions and cooler nighttime temperatures.

Guests should come prepared with:

• Warm layers and weather protection
• Sturdy footwear suitable for uneven and sloped terrain
• Extra warmth items such as blankets, gloves, hats, and additional layers
• A headlamp or flashlight for navigating after dark
• A reusable water bottle
• A small backpack or bag for carrying personal items and extra layers
• Your preferred seating option (such as a camping chair, cushion, or blanket)
• Any personal medications or items you may need during several hours outdoors

The screening area is located on a sloped surface. While we are exploring a variety of seating options, guests are encouraged to bring their preferred seating setup to ensure they are comfortable throughout the experience.

Please note that outside alcohol is not permitted at the Summit Screening. Smoking, vaping, and cannabis use are also not permitted at the mountaintop venue.

Will the chairlift be running during the screening?

No. The chairlift will not operate during the screening from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Guests must arrive at the mountaintop before 6:30 p.m. to ensure they do not miss the screening experience.

Please plan your arrival accordingly, as the chairlift will not operate during the screening period. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer refunds for guests who arrive after the chairlift closure.

The chairlift will only operate during the screening in the event of a medical emergency or other safety-related circumstance.

First aid attendants will be on site throughout the event to support guest safety.

What is included with my ticket?

Each ticket option offers a different way to experience Stillpoint’s alpine evening:

Summit Screening (10+)*
Includes chairlift access to the mountaintop starting at 6 p.m., and admission to the outdoor screening experience at Kimberley Alpine Resort.

Summit Screening + Alpine BBQ (10+)*
Includes early mountaintop access starting at 5 p.m., chairlift access, admission to the Summit Screening, and a BBQ combo plate. Ticket holders will be contacted in advance to select their preferred meal option.

Peak Experience (19+)
Includes early chairlift access starting at 4 p.m., admission and reserved seating to the Summit Screening, and an elevated alpine gathering at Kootenay Haus featuring curated food, a sparkling toast, and a unique evening experience before the screening begins.

The Peak Experience features:

• • Bar service from 4:30 p.m. (cash bar) featuring beer, wine, sparkling, coolers, and ciders
  • Food service from 4:30–6:00 p.m.

All tickets include access to the alpine environment and evening programming. Guests should be prepared for mountain conditions, including uneven terrain, changing temperatures, and reduced visibility after sunset.

Is food available at the Summit Screening?

Yes. Food and snacks will be available for purchase at the Summit Screening. A selection of beverages, including alcoholic beverages, will also be available for purchase. Available options include:

BBQ Items

• Loaded Cheese BBQ Burger
• Jumbo Hot Dog
• Cheese-Filled Smokie & Sauerkraut
• BBQ Combo Plate (choice of burger, hot dog, or smokie & sauerkraut, served with chippers and macaroni salad)

BBQ items will be available on a limited basis, so guests are encouraged to plan accordingly.

Snacks

• House-Made Chippers (kettle chip style)
• Chocolate Bars

Guests who have purchased the Summit Screening + Alpine BBQ ticket will have their meal included and will be contacted in advance to select their preferred option.

Dining Before You Ascend
Looking for a meal before heading up the mountain? Buckhorn and Main Mountain Eatery will be offering their happy hour menu prior to chairlift access, making it a great option to enjoy dinner before beginning your alpine evening.

What happens if weather impacts the Summit Screening?

This is a mountain event and weather is part of the experience. If conditions require changes, Summit Screening and Peak Experience guests will still enjoy pre-screening entertainment, gathering spaces, food, and programming at Kimberley Alpine Resort.

Should weather prevent the mountaintop screening from proceeding, the film screening itself will move indoors to the Conference Centre.

This event is both a celebration of the mountains and a fundraiser supporting Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook. Your ticket purchase helps sustain our conservation and community programs, and we appreciate your support.
