Citizen Science Monitoring Volunteer Group 2023/4

Bighorn Sheep Monitoring Club

We are holding a monthly Bighorn sheep monitoring event. No experience is needed to be a citizen science sheep monitor, just the ability to walk and be outside for 3-4 hours. We will provide you with orientation and tools to do the monitoring. This is in support of our Bighorn Sheep Conservation and Biodiversity project. By participating in the program, volunteers actively contribute to the project’s objectives by assisting in monitoring activities such as observing and documenting bighorn sheep sightings, recording behavioural observations, and collecting data on habitat use.

Please register here if you are interested.

While previous monitoring skills are advantageous, they are not necessary. However, we do require volunteers to have a positive attitude, a keen interest in learning about native flora and fauna, and a genuine love for our Bighorn Sheep. Additional information about the program can be found here.

Location: North and south ends of Columbia Lake

Requirements:

  • Active individuals capable of hiking or biking to effectively monitor sheep
  • General knowledge or a willingness to learn the Fast Fields monitoring program (a user-friendly digital tool)
  • Possession of a cellphone or tablet (this is mandatory)
  • General knowledge or a willingness to learn about local flora and fauna
  • Self-starter attitude
  • Willingness to work outdoors, as monitoring will take place regardless of weather conditions
  • Fun to be around!!

See directions above on how to apply!  Look forward to seeing you out there!
