Community Pick and Press Events

Community Pick and Press Events

Gathering, together!

The Elk Valley is plentiful with fruit, particularly apples. These apples can be great for fresh eating, baking, dehydrating, and juicing.

Our community pick and press events are a great way to socialize, share in the harvest, learn to use our Tool Share equipment, and find out more about our programs. Bring your friends and your family!

How it works

As part of our community pick events, our Food Program Coordinator will let you know what trees are available to pick, where they are, provide harvesting tools, and guide you through the process of harvesting.

Our community press events are super fun, cooperative events! We work as a team to juice as many apples as possible using apple presses and grinders provided by Tool Share. The Food Program Coordinator will demonstrate how to use and maintain the equipment. Each event typically lasts two hours. At the end of the event, you are welcome to bring what you harvest home or donate a portion to local organizations. Any leftover juice will be donated to the local food recovery.

What to bring

Pick Event

  • Bring your own hat, gloves, water bottle, and boxes/crates to bring apples home.

Press Event

  • You can bring your own apples to juice or use the local apples provided for the event.
  • Bring your own jars/jugs to take home juice.

You will need to provide your own transportation to the location(s) of the event.
