An Important Update About the Stillpoint Festival

It is with deep regret that Wildsight Kimberley/Cranbrook has made the difficult decision to cancel the Stillpoint Summit Screening and mountaintop experiences originally planned for September 19, as well as the expanded Farmers’ Market and Kootenay Film Celebration planned for September 17 and 18. We are writing to share the reasons behind our decision, assure ticketholders that they will receive a full refund, and share that Stillpoint will continue as a one-day community gathering on Saturday, September 19.

There are two interconnected issues behind this decision: the health of a key team member and our organization’s financial security.

First, the Wildsight Kimberley/Cranbrook branch is operated by a small team. Over the past year, much of the production and fundraising responsibility for Stillpoint has been carried primarily by our Fundraising Coordinator, Sparta Humphreys. A seasoned event planner, she poured her passion and expertise into creating an event for the whole community to enjoy. Unfortunately, Sparta experienced a serious illness at the start of the year that returned this summer and continues posing unpredictable health challenges. We care deeply for our staff and cannot proceed with an event that puts a team member’s health and well-being at risk.

Second, delivering an outdoor screening with an indoor weather contingency that meets the technical standards of the Banff World Tour requires projection equipment that is not available locally, adding to the already high cost of producing a mountaintop gathering. With our limited capacity, we were not able to secure the sponsorship and fundraising dollars required to deliver the event as planned without exposing Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook to an unacceptable level of financial risk.

As a small environmental non-profit, we must work in the best interest of our team members and be careful stewards of the resources entrusted to us. For these reasons, we are scaling back the festival to a single-day event. This is not a decision that was made lightly. We recognize that there has been interest and anticipation around this event, and we are incredibly sorry to disappoint everyone who was looking forward to a mountaintop film screening.

Ticket Refunds

All Summit Screening, Peak Experience, Alpine BBQ, and Kootenay Film Celebration ticket holders will receive a full refund as soon as possible through Zeffy, our ticketing platform, as soon as possible.

Conference Centre tickets will be reserved for purchase for existing Summit Screening, Peak Experience, and Alpine BBQ ticket holders until 11:59 pm on September 9. A message with full details will be sent directly to each ticket holder. We appreciate your patience as we complete this process.

Stillpoint Raffle

The Stillpoint Raffles have been influenced by this decision as well. Round 3 has been cancelled, while Round 2 ticket purchases are being refunded. Round 1 winners are being offered alternative prizes as is required through BC Gaming and licensing. Fortunately, the 50/50 raffle is still running, and currently sits at over $1,500.

Still gathering on Saturday, September 19

We recognize that this news is disappointing, especially for all those who supported Stillpoint by purchasing screening tickets and raffle tickets or supported us as community partners. We are deeply grateful to the partners, sponsors, volunteers, ticket holders, and community members who have supported this vision. We especially wish to thank the Kimberley Alpine Resort team, Inland AV, and Ray’s Music for their expertise and continued support.

We wish to thank everyone who believed in the idea of bringing art, nature, and community together at the top of North Star Mountain. We are genuinely sorry that we cannot deliver this experience at this time, and hope you’ll still gather with us to watch inspiring Banff World Tour films and celebrate the end of summer at the Kimberley Alpine Resort base. For full details, please visit wildsight.ca/stillpoint.
