Get Wild Summer Day Camp

Position Description:

The GET WILD! Summer day camp provides and environment and outdoor education program for children from ages 6-10. The camp prides itself with its experiential education style, local collaborations and projects.

We are seeking a team-oriented, creative and energetic person to fill this seasonal position as a camp counsellor. The successful candidates will have a strong interest in working with children, and will be dedicated to providing quality care, role modeling and learning about environmental education.

Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Youth Summer Environmental Education Coordinator and the Branch Manager, the counsellor will work as a leader that ensures a safe and fun environment for campers. The camp counsellor is responsible for the maintenance of healthy relationships with individual campers and will be dedicated to fostering good intra-generational friendships in our community. The counsellor should be compassionate, energetic, creative, driven, fun and have a desire to bring out the best in campers and make positive changes in their lives. This organized individual will have the ability to deal with multiple activities and excited children at the same time.

Wildsight Golden is a non-profit environmental organization whose main goal “is to work to maintain biodiversity and healthy human communities in and around our region”. The GET WILD! Summer day camp provides an environment and outdoor education program for children from ages 6-10. The camp prides itself with its experiential education style, local collaborations and projects.

This summer camp is all about spending the whole day outdoors (rain or shine) and leading children through experiential learning day to day. It’s meant to be super fun and inspiring for both staff and campers, a time to connect with the environment and Golden’s community. The camp staff are meant to foster healthy relationships with campers and guide them in playful days spent with friends.

Requirements:

Applicants must be prepared for a job that entails daily physical activity and all workdays outside, rain or shine.

Certifications in first aid, leadership, and outdoor skills are an asset.

Special Conditions: If you are selected for this position and are over 18 years of age you must submit a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to July 3, 2024.

Terms of Employment:

Location is in person in Golden, BC. The work will be performed all around the community including in Area A.

Hours are full time: 35 hours per week, starting June 24 until August 23

Core hours are 9 AM to 3 PM Monday to Friday

Compensation is $21/hour

Special Conditions: If you are selected for this position and are over 18 years of age you must submit a Criminal Record Check to Wildsight Golden by June 27, 2024.
