Vision: We restore and maintain healthy ecosystems in the Creston Valley for future generations.
Mission: We foster a culture of land and water stewardship that helps people, plants and wildlife thrive. We are inspired to initiate and collaborate using science, local and traditional knowledge.
Wildsight Creston Valley engages and inspires the local community. We host events throughout the year on a wide range of topics including wildlife, conservation and the region’s landscape.
In the summer we lead family friendly nature walks to explore the wonderful ecology of the Creston Valley. In the Fall, we have the Local Colours Photography with images of wildlife, nature, hiking and adventures. In the winter we show the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival to celebrate mountain culture and environmental initiatives. Every spring, we host the renowned Creston Valley Bird Festival.
During 2019 we worked with the Selkirk Community College and funding from Yellowstone-to-Yukon to produce a Green Map for the Creston Valley that highlighted areas in the valley that are of high ecological value. For more information, please visit the Creston Valley Green Map project.
We have a variety of projects such as turtle fencing, water monitoring, elk corridor restoration, abandoned fencing work bees, wildlife friendly fencing and more. To see more on our current project list go here.
Our branch is a member of the Creston Valley Community Forest Corporation, keeping control of our watersheds and employment in the hands of the community. The community forest has adopted eco-forestry recommendations made by the Silva Foundation. We are concentrating on selective logging techniques such as single tree harvesting, shelter wood, and small group selection in which open cuts are never more than two tree heights in diameter.
Wildsight Creston work on the traditional, unceded lands of the Yaqan Nukiy people, of the Ktunaxa Nation. We honour their past, present and future stewardship of these lands and waters.
