Golden has had an EV car share for a few years now. The program, hosted by Golden Community Resources, received investments from Columbia Basin Trust and a number of community partners.
It was always the intention for Wildsight Golden to add the EV Car Share to our programs and projects. The project allows us to showcase the enjoyment and efficiency of driving an electric vehicle, providing people with a chance to “try before they buy”.
Electricity is a more sustainable energy source than fossil fuels, and electric vehicles are becoming a good option to help reduce personal carbon emissions.
The EV Car Share is available for booking at a reasonable cost of $60 a day. It comes fully charged, and renters are only required to pay for electricity at charging stations outside of Golden. The car has a few accessories that are also available, including a bike rack and ski rack, so you can play for the day. The vehicle is always well maintained and tires are switched out for the appropriate seasons. So, if you’re looking for a winter trip and don’t have snow tires, the EV Car Share has you covered.
When the car isn’t in use, it sits outside the Town office. If you’re curious, swing by and take a look! It will also be making guest appearances at the Farmers’ Markets on Wednesdays in August, when not being rented. Come say hello, check it out, and sign up for a chance to take a free test drive.
