2018 Go Wild! Youth Wilderness Trips

Already ready to apply?

Adventure deep into the wilderness this summer with hiking guides Dave Quinn, Kelly Comishin and Leah Evans!

Go Wild challenges youth 14-18 on six-day wilderness backpacking trips into the Kootenay backcountry. Our Go Wild trips develop leadership skills, connect participants to our landscape and inspire a love of the mountains to last a lifetime.

Go Wild! isn’t just a backpacking trip: it’s an education in backcountry camping and hiking that teaches the wilderness skills needed to safely plan and enjoy trips in our mountains. Starting a fire, reading a topographic map, planning a route without relying on trails, setting up camp, managing a heavy pack, cooking on a camp stove, planning and packing backcountry meals, staying safe around wildlife and more will be covered. And Go Wild isn’t just about practical skills, it also covers mountain ecology, history, conservation and backcountry ethics. Go Wild opens the door to a lifetime of wilderness adventure.

Go Wild: Height of the Rockies
July 14-19
A trip deep into Top of the World in the Rockies with Dave Quinn and Leah Evans. Rich in history and wildlife, this region also boasts unique geology as well as some of the most dramatic mountain scenery found anywhere in the Southern Rockies.

Go Wild: Heart of the Purcells

SORRY, THIS TRIP IS FULL!

August 10-15
A culturally significant landscape for thousands of years, Upper Jumbo and Glacier Creeks are home to grizzlies, wolverine, mountain goat, and some of the most jaw-dropping glacial scenery anywhere. We will visit the popular Jumbo Pass area before exploring upper Glacier and Leona Creeks for this unforgettable loop hike with Dave Quinn and Kelly Comishin. You’ve seen the Jumbo Wild bumper stickers, come experience the Central Purcell wilderness yourself!

The cost for each trip is $500, including tents, stoves and all trip meals (participants provide their own trail snacks). We have gear (backpacks, sleeping bags, rain gear, etc) available to lend upon request and a limited number of bursaries available. While participants must be able to demonstrate a base fitness level sufficient for the trip, we strongly encourage participation from those with little or no backcountry experience.

Routes may change based on trail and access road conditions. For more information, get in touch with Dave at gowild@wildsight.ca or 250.427.5666.
