It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dale Zinovich. A passionate advocate for the environment, Dale was one of the founding members of the East Kootenay Environmental Society (EKES) with her husband George.
Over the years, Dale was a steady, grounded and committed force, playing a key role on our Mining Committee in Kimberley, making sure that Mark Creek, which ran orange and lifeless through the centre of town not so long ago, recovered from the impact of more than a century of mining. Her efforts worked, because today’s Mark Creek is home to trout again, not to mention swimming kids. Dale’s calm, composed and organized presence were key for our small community group grappling with one of Canada’s largest mining companies and dealing difficult and complex issues in a non-threatening way.
Dale sat on the Board of Directors for many years as Treasurer and managed our resource library, full of important technical reports in those pre-computer days. Dale will be greatly missed and her contributions never forgotten.
