The Columbia River Field School is a summer learning adventure for students aged 15-18. Participants will paddle key sections of the Canadian side of the Columbia River and camp along its riverbank, while learning about the watershed’s past, present and future.

Spanning 15 days, students meet with a diverse group of guest speakers including government officials, Indigenous knowledge holders, scientists, artists, and adventurers. Participants earn Recreational Canoe Association of BC certifications, and gain important outdoor skills like reading maps, packing, cooking, setting up camp and leave no trace practices. But most importantly, they will gain an appreciation for this watershed and the intricate role we all play in its protection.

Participants also receive four credits from School District 8 for successful completion of the program!

Applications due Sunday April 6th.

Trip dates are Saturday July 12th through Sunday July 26th.

To be eligible, you must be 15, 16, 17, or 18 years old on July 12th. Preference is given to students living within the Columbia Basin. We will provide accepted students and their families with an information packet in advance to help them prepare for the trip.
