About the Position
Wildsight is seeking a motivated Conservation and GIS Summer Student to join our team for the summer of 2019. This position will focus strongly on mapping and data management. S/he will work closely with our conservation and communications teams to identify program needs and develop an effective way of displaying information through maps and other visual data display. Examples of this could include visually displaying overlapping land tenures, including recreation tenures, forestry tenures, mining and energy claims, with biodiversity values to identify hot spots. The Conservation Intern will support Wildsight’s work by engaging in the following three areas over the course of the summer: conservation, mapping and data management.
This position is based in Kimberley, BC.
Skills and requirements:
- Demonstrated skill with Arc GIS, QGIS or other mapping software
- Experience using online platforms, such as a CRM database, project management tools would be an asset
- Ability to work well independently and in a team
- An understanding of conservation issues in the Columbia Basin
- Must be a full-time and returning student
- Must be a Canadian citizen or legally entitled to work in Canada
