Seeking a Lead host/Volunteer coordinator for the Invermere Farmer’s Market
Be part of creating the inaugural bike valet in downtown Invermere, every Saturday throughout summer at the Farmers Market. A bike valet is like a coat check but for bikes, to support and encourage cycling as a mode of transport around town.
Our ideal candidate:
- Can commit to attending every Saturday between June 14th – Sept 13th. If you can commit to the majority of Saturdays but will need to miss a couple, or if you’d like to split the commitment with one other person, please still apply!
- Can start setup at 7-7.30am, finishing after takedown at 2pm.
- Has a vehicle you can use to transport equipment from storage area to site and back.
- Will spend up to 1hr additional each week coordinating volunteers for set up/ hosting/ take down, which includes scheduling volunteers who’ve expressed interest, contacting them to confirm their shifts, and providing info they need.
- Has a responsible, organised attitude – can train volunteers and ensure compliance with the checkin/out processes, ensure safety of both people and bikes, and keep the bike valet organised and tidy.
- Is physically able to lift and move bikes and portable fencing panels, and set up bike racks, tent, fencing and tables.
- Is outgoing and enjoys talking with people about cycling, active transport, and climate change action
- Is confident to represent Wildsight Invermere to the public, talk about all our programs and encourage engagement (donating, volunteering, etc).
Responsibilities:
– Schedule and confirm volunteers before each Saturday and answer their questions
– Transport, setup, take down and storage of security fencing, signage, bike racks, tents and customer check in centre
– Greeting of guests, explanation of services and other inquiries when possible
– Check in guests bikes/equipment using tag system
– Collection of data as required upon check in and check out
– Keeping work area clean and organised
– Maintaining a visual check on bike storage area to keep it secure from intruders/theft
– Confirming guest “check in number” prior to checking out bike/equipment
– Maintain an organized storage area that will facilitate orderly transition of check in/outs
– Secure stored equipment at end of day
– Communicate any incidents, customer feedback with manager
The Lead Host will as much as possible be paired with at least one other volunteer host throughout the day, with more for setup and take down. In an instance where no volunteers are available, a Wildsight team member will be on call to support.
Rate will be $180-200 per week worked, which includes expected 7hrs on Saturday plus time to coordinate volunteers (expected 1hr/wk). This is a contractor position so we will require an invoice from you (monthly) in order to be paid.
