Wildflowers, Seeds, and Pollinators: A Talk with Caroline Collier

Location:
Creston Valley Public Library

Wildsight Creston Valley Director and native plant enthusiast Caroline Collier will be giving a talk: “Collecting Seed from Wildflowers” at the Creston Valley Library on Saturday, April 11 from 2–3:30pm.

For those of you who love seeing wildflowers, and especially for those who recognize these flowers as important foundational beings in our ecosystem, we invite you to learn ethical methods for collecting their seed. We hope you’ll enjoy growing them for yourselves.

This talk is part of the growing excitement around our Creston Nectar Network Project! This spring, we will be offering seven species of native flowering plants for a small fee. Participants are invited to plant one square metre with these plants to help create pollinator connectivity across the valley.

To start, we are prioritizing an area from Spectrum Farm, where Caroline has established a beautiful pollinator garden, toward Schikurski Park, helping build a connected corridor of pollinator habitat. However, this is a pollinator network, and we welcome anyone interested in participating.

New to planting native plants? Mentorship will be available for participants who would like guidance.

Those who take part will be recognized as Pollinator Pals in this project.

Once the plants are in the ground, we’ll celebrate with a Pollinator Picnic, featuring special guest speakers, native plant experts, and an opportunity to connect with others in the community who share a passion for native plants, pollinators, and stewardship.
