Help us give this park a bit of mulch needed love!
Here’s to one last weed pulling, edging, and mulching hurrah at Spooner Park!
Thanks to all those who joined us at the Rewild, Renew, Reconnect event at Spooner Park. What a success – almost all the invasives were removed and there was a great turnout! Thanks to the MBSS Outdoor Leadership Class for organizing this super fun morning.
All we need to do now is lend a helping hand to the native plants that are drowning (as you can see in the picture on top!) by digging, edging, and mulching to keep the grasses at bay.
When:
Wednesday, July 19 from 9:30am to 12:00pm
Where:
Rick Spooner Memorial Park
17 Ave N, Cranbrook (across the street from the Western Financial Place playground)
Things to know:
- BBQ lunch to be provided
- Equipment will be provided
- Be sure to dress according to the weather, the park can be hot so please remember your hats and sunscreen
- Bring some gloves if you don’t want to get your hands dirty, though we will have some available if you don’t have your own
- There is a fully functioning bathroom available in Western Financial Place
Why do we need your help? Invasive plant species continue to move into our region at an alarming rate. Without the action of residents, there are not enough resources to battle the threat. Heightened public knowledge about identification and management of invasive species can lead to more effective removal of invasive plants and restoration of native plant communities.
