Make Climate a Priority

On June 14, the District of Invermere sets its strategic priorities for the year ahead. Strategic priorities are critical, because they help determine the policies and projects that Council will tackle in both the short- and long-term. In other words, strategic priorities influence what the District will spend both time and money on.

The urgency of the climate crisis demands our elected officials take this issue seriously. Moreover, we know that municipalities in Canada can legislate actions that affect as much as 50% of our national emissions. In a region that research has shown will be disproportionately impacted by climate change, we need to do more and better.

Put simply, we need Council to take climate action now. The first step in doing so is ensuring Council identifies climate change as a strategic priority. To that end, please join us on May 26 at 7pm for a climate action letter-writing workshop.

Register today. Let’s make certain climate change is a priority for 2021 and the years to come.
