Adventure, play and learning all rolled into one. This session is for families with youth in grades 6-8, and a chance for parents and kids to explore and learn together. We’ll take a hike around the Pineridge trails west of Invermere (suitable for novices), and learn how to have fun and test your boundaries in nature’s playground while respecting the wilderness and your own safety.
Get hands-on digging a cat hole (not sure what that is? Join us to find out!), shelter building, and practicing using bear spray. Find out how to prevent conflict with wildlife, and follow the core principles of Leave No Trace, to help keep nature wild and beautiful. Enjoy the views of Lake Windermere in one direction and the Toby Benches in the other. Learn how to prepare for your own outdoor adventures with both planning and practical skills.
Bonus: you can become familiar with this excellent forested area close to town that youth can walk/bike to, to continue practicing their skills and getting confident in the outdoors.
Incorporating years of experience as a youth worker and certified outdoor guide, Kristin Anderson from Adventures Free You will be our host and share tons of knowledge and tips throughout the activities.
