Wildsight Golden has worked towards and delivered many key successes in maintaining biodiversity and a healthy community over the years, for example the inclusion of the old growth forest in the Cummins Valley in Hamber Provincial Park, and the motorized vehicle restrictions within the Columbia Wetlands Wildlife Management Area. We started the first recycling program and nature oriented Outdoor Day Camp in town as well as developing the wildlife viewing gazebo at Reflection Lake. More recent successes will be featured at our Annual General Meeting on March 4th, 7pm at the Island Restaurant.
Wildsight Golden is primarily a volunteer organization. Aside from a few skilled and hard-working staff and contractors, much of the project work is done by volunteers. Key amongst the volunteers are those who are also on the board of directors. The idea is that in addition to the legal and fiduciary responsibilities of serving on a board, some folks also volunteer their time towards, and often lead, specific Wildsight projects.
Every year at our AGM, when we re-appoint our board of directors, we hope to recruit new dedicated individuals – especially those with a passion for and skills in running events, leading programs, and fundraising. Perhaps there’s a community project or environmental idea you’ve been pondering over, waiting for the right opportunity to bring it to life? If you have skills as a member of a board of directors, or if you don’t but want to learn, we can offer you experience, mentorship, funding opportunities and a platform to have a tangible impact on projects that mean something to you. If you have a project you wish to propose, advocate for, plan and lead, or you would like to get involved in existing citizen science initiatives, we would love to hear from you! Please get in touch at golden@wildsight.ca before March 4th so we can discuss your skills and ideas, and help you decide if it’s the right form of public service for you.
All are invited to attend our AGM, you don’t have to be a member to come along, but only members can nominate and vote on new candidates for the board. You can become a lifetime member for $20 over on our website. Come and find out what Wildsight Golden has been up to this year, our upcoming plans and a chance to have your say. A dessert bar and light refreshments will be provided, as well as door prizes of PurpleAir monitors, courtesy of our Air Quality Committee. We’ll be kicking the evening off with a game of PINGO (plant bingo) so now’s the time to brush up on your botany skills.
We look forward to seeing you there!
