What climbs mountain peaks all winter, eats frozen carcasses and prefers solitude? Join Wildsight on October 29 to hear about the elusive wolverine. Jared Basil from Ktunaxa Nation Council will introduce us to the Ktunaxa territory of the wolverine: ʔamakʔis ʔaȼ̓ pu. Local wolverine biologists Andrea Kortello and Doris Hausleitner will then speak about interactions between outdoor recreationalists and wolverines — and how we can reduce our impact on them.
Jared is a Cultural Framework Educator with the Social Sector of the Ktunaxa Nation. Andrea is a wildlife biologist with Grylloblatta Ecological Consulting and co-initiated the Kootenay Wolverine Project and Wolverine Watch with Doris. Doris is a wildlife biologist with Seepanee Ecological and a Selkirk College ecology instructor.
Andrea and Doris will speak about their work pursuing a better understanding of wolverines in the Kootenays, their den sites and how we can make life a bit easier for these tenacious animals. Afterwards, Wildsight staff will facilitate an audience discussion, with the opportunity to ask questions and share perspectives.
This event is free, but space is limited. Please register to save your seat. The event will be recorded for those not in attendance.
