Communications and Development Coordinator (One year, half-time contract, with potential to renew)
Start Date: Position begins January 3, 2017, with two to three training days in mid-December
Hours: 20-24 hours a week, to be determined
Salary: $22,235-$26,682 (this includes five weeks paid vacation)

Wildsight is looking for a creative, collaborative and passionate Communications and Development Coordinator to join our team. As a member of the Wildsight communications and development team, the communications and development coordinator will be an exceptional writer, creating engaging content, and helping to develop and implement communications strategies designed to elevate Wildsight’s profile and enable its program and fundraising goals.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Writing engaging press releases and/or editorials and opinion pieces for traditional print media
- Leading and carrying out the social media strategy, innovating new ways to connect with new audiences and influencers
- Writing the monthly eNewsletter (reaching an audience of ~15,000 supporters) and Action Alerts as they arise
- Developing fresh content for the website that reflects our voice and strategy
- Writing copy for the Annual Report and Wild Times print newsletter
- Supporting the five Wildsight Branches in their communications efforts
- Development writing: write and/or edit Grant Applications and Funding Reports and write donor-centric copy for fundraising appeals and emails to specific donors that reflect the donor’s values and priorities
- Participate in donor relations activities including thank-you calling, thank-you cards and cultivation
- Assist program staff in creating presentations and/or speeches as needed
Desired Qualifications:
- A undergraduate degree in Communications, Creative Writing or related field
- Proven ability to write clean, clear and inspiring prose and a keen eye for editing
- Experience in the nonprofit sector
- Self-motivated and independent, always looking for opportunities to take Wildsight’s communications to the next level
- Social media experience and expertise
- Knowledge of environmental issues in British Columbia, specifically in the Kootenay region
- Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and work on cross-functional teams
- Ability to accept, manage, and integrate feedback from multiple stakeholders to produce the best possible finished product
- Ability to adapt and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- A passion for the wild
- Experience fundraising is an asset
- Experience working with a CRM database and/or a CMS platform such as WordPress are assets
