Program Coordinator

Wildsight Invermere is looking for an outgoing, motivated individual to work with our Branch Manager and dynamic Board of Directors. We are a long-standing, grassroots ENGO, dedicated to promoting environmental stewardship and community sustainability in the upper Columbia Valley. This job offers an opportunity to carry out our ongoing programs and to develop new project ideas that support our vision and mandate.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Program Coordinator supports the leadership and management to ensure Wildsight Invermere is achieving the organization’s mandate. This goal is achieved by working directly with the Branch Manager and Wildsight Invermere Board of Directors, who set policy and strategic direction. This position requires a dynamic individual who will be responsible for program development, delivery, and management; communications and outreach; and fundraising, and administration.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overview
● Work with Branch Manager to carry out Wildsight Invermere’s work plan
● Collaborate with the Branch Manager and Board of Directors in developing annual work plans, strategic direction, and financial projections
● Develop new initiatives that support our vision and mandate as it fits within our strategic plan
● Increase the organization’s visibility and reputation in the community to continue to engage new residents and those with deep roots in the Columbia Valley
Management
● Work with the Board and Branch Manager to set and implement strategic direction and policies
● Oversee Spark (Wildsight Invermere’s Electric Vehicle Share Program) in its promotion and operation
● Lead organization of Wild and Scenic Film Festival, annual fundraiser in November
● Identify opportunities in the community to engage with other groups around environmental and climate change issues
● Develop relationships with community partners and businesses, re: public engagement and funding
● Identify volunteer opportunities; recruit and supervise volunteers
● Represent the organization in community through outreach and engagement opportunities
● Work with the Branch Manager to maintain the organization’s financial viability by identifying and applying for grants and facilitating fundraising opportunities
● Provide support for Wildsight Invermere Board of Directors, including the coordination of the Annual General Meeting and regular Board Meeting attendance.
● Contribute to the credibility of the organization
Communications & Outreach
● Communicate with the public and partners through regular social media, e-newsletters, website, and presentations
● Create communications materials, including press releases, emails, posters, and digital content
● Respond to local, time-sensitive issues that require a formal, written response to the government, media or community members
● Develop innovative initiatives to increase our membership and community engagement
● Develop and coordinate public events such as speakers, films, and workshops, that align with current programming and ongoing areas of focus, including setup and implementation of the event
● Update and maintain Wildsight Invermere web page and database with oversight from Wildsight Regional
● Use the database effectively to manage event, donor, volunteer, and contact information
● Participate in information sharing with Wildsight Regional and other Wildsight Branches
● Represent Wildsight Invermere when appropriate at community meetings and events, and to local government and other organizations
● Respond to inquiries from organizations and the public
Administration
● Track activities and hours monthly in report to Branch Manager and Board of Directors
● Provide monthly reporting to the Wildsight Invermere Board of Directors and Wildsight Regional, as requested
● Maintain the Wildsight Invermere office space and equipment
● Work with the Branch Manager to create and maintain budgeting goals for the organization as a whole and for specific projects
● Ensure that the organization completes all required reporting
● Maintain Wildsight Invermere’s shared Google Drive to ensure documents are organized
Essential Requirements
● Committed environmental ethic
● Local/regional familiarity
● High level of self-motivation and ability to work without supervision
● Exceptional interpersonal skills
● Strong written and oral communication skills
● Willingness to work evenings and weekends when necessary
● Proven grant writing skills
● Strong computer skills
● A valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle
● Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident status

Organization Background:
The Invermere branch of Wildsight has been the environmental voice of the upper Columbia Valley since 1989. We are a BC registered non-profit organization, governed by an engaged Board of Directors and supported by active members and volunteers. Our work aims to promote environmental stewardship and conservation in our community and to celebrate this place we call home. We organize community events for all ages through inspirational workshops, speakers (like David Suzuki), films, and outings. We also undertake large initiatives such as Pesticide Free Invermere, Wilmer wetlands clean-ups and the Lake Enid Restoration Project. We work together with Wildsight Regional and the five other Wildsight branches.
Wildsight’s vision is to inspire a shared community desire to protect our natural world for future generations. We envision extensive and connected wild spaces for wildlife—from grizzly bears to woodpeckers to trout. We envision clean air and clear water running from mountain watersheds to our lakes. We see thriving and sustainable communities made up of engaged and educated citizens.
