About Composting with Worms (also known as Vermicomposting)
A 2018 East Kootenay waste audit found that 30% of what enters our landfills is organic, compostable material. Luckily, composting at home is an easy and fun activity that anyone can start to reduce their waste.
Earthworms are magical in that they can digest food waste and turn it into a nutrient-rich fertilizer for your garden. They are hard-working, kind, and low-maintenance. Pretty much a gardener’s dream!
If you are new to worms, join Jessica Fong, one of Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook’s Garden Committee members, to learn the basics and get a head start. She will be teaching the fundamentals of this type of composting including: basic worm biology, types of bins, do’s and don’ts, and how to harvest the composted soil. There will also be an opportunity to pick up some troubleshooting tips and ask questions. If you have some experience, please come and share your valuable knowledge with everyone else.
