Bear Day is back, only in a slightly different version this year as we make sure it’s a safe, physically distanced event for the whole family. Come out on Saturday, August 29, from 10am – 2pm, to Pot Hole Park and learn all about Ursus arctos horribilis and Ursus americanus, and how we can stay safe together with these iconic animals.

You’ll hear wild stories from longtime bear specialist Reno Sommerhalder from Banff. His animated presentation draws from his experiences working with bears in Canada, Alaska and Russia. As in previous years, you can try your hand at using bear spray and learn how to behave when you come across a bear. Bring in your used bear spray and we’ll recycle the old canisters. You’ll also see a demonstration on how a bear trap works.

This year, there will be a special booth with Groundswell where you can bring your own container and apples already quartered, and make juice with the apple press. The end of summer and fall are crucial times for bears because they need to eat constantly in order to pack on the pounds before hibernation. With fruit ripening on our trees, they are attracted to these food sources.

Bear Day Schedule

Wildsight Invermere is organizing this event in collaboration with WildSafe BC, local Conservation Officers from BC Ministry of Environment, and Groundswell.

We will have a hand sanitizer station set up but please bring a mask with you.
