Beavers: Canada’s Climate Champions

Wildsight is busy building a new education program for Grades 3–8, inspired by Canada’s iconic beaver! Beavers show us that nature can lead the way to climate resilience; let’s learn from their wisdom! Through dam-building and wetland restoration, these intrepid animals model climate solutions by reducing flooding, storing water during drought, increasing biodiversity, strengthening ecosystem resilience, and mitigating wildfire impacts.

Local Field Experiences

Our new program will offer hands-on, outdoor learning, as students of the Columbia Basin explore beavers in their habitat — the wonderful wetland ecosystems of our region.

Online Teaching kit

We are also working to create a classroom kit to bring this learning to schools across Canada. We are looking for collaborators to help us create a curriculum package featuring voices of scientists, Indigenous knowledge-keepers, groups involved in beaver habitat enhancement projects, and other ‘beaver believers’!

Stay Tuned! If you are interested in discussing this program more, contact Monica Nissen (monica@wildsight.ca), Wildsight Education Director.
