GNARLY PINES
What loves cold, windy ridge-tops, has purple-coloured cones, and needles growing in bunches of five? The whitebark pine!
These trees play an important role in mountain ecosystems. They provide food and shelter to wildlife, stabilize slopes and help regulate the snowpack. But the trees are in decline and at risk of extinction. They need our help!
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort (KHMR) supports whitebark pine conservation efforts and is certified as a Whitebark Pine Friendly Ski Area. On March 18th, we’ll be at the KHMR gondola base area with Parks Canada to share what they do to protect these endangered trees.
Stop by to examine tree climbing equipment, pet a bear pelt, grab some sticker swag, and much more!
