Meet at the Kootenay-Columbia Discovery Centre Parking Lot1760 W Creston Rd, Creston, BC

Come join us to repair and maintain a turtle fence at the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area. This fence was installed to keep turtles from getting killed on the West Creston Road when they are trying to find a spot to lay their eggs.  Western Painted Turtles generally lay their eggs within 150 m upland of a pond in dry, light, soils.

The work will involve straightening fencing that has fallen over, pruning vegetation from around the fence, removing grass from the fence and relocating some fencing.  The work will involve walking up and down a steep bank and uneven surfaces. There is light work as well as a bit trickier work.

Please note:

  • All participants must sign a waiver at the event.
  • Bring work gloves.
  • We will have some tools, but if you have secateurs, a small pruning saw, pliers, or a mallet, please bring them.
  • Waders/ or rubber boots can also be very helpful!!
  • Bring water/snacks.

Join us on Saturday, June 4th from 9:30-11:30am. Meet at the Kootenay-Columbia Discovery Centre Parking Lot.  If you have any questions, please email melissa@wildsight.ca
