2019 Go Wild! 6-day Youth Wilderness Trip – FULL

Saturday, July 20, 2019 - Thursday, July 25, 2019

The

This year’s trip is now full.

Adventure deep into the wilderness this summer on Go Wild!, a 6-day youth wilderness adventure into the Kootenay backcountry. On these trips, youth aged 14-18 develop leadership skills, connect to the landscape and inspire a love of mountains to last a lifetime.

Go Wild! isn’t just a backpacking trip: it’s an education in backcountry camping and hiking that teaches wilderness skills needed to safely plan and enjoy trips in the mountains. Starting a fire, reading a topographic map, planning a route without relying on trails, setting up camp, managing a heavy pack, cooking on a camp stove, planning and packing backcountry meals, staying safe around wildlife and more will be covered. Go Wild also covers mountain ecology, history, conservation and backcountry ethics. Go Wild opens the door to a lifetime of wilderness adventure.

Go Wild: Height of the Rockies, July 20-25, 2019

This year’s trip will go deep into the heart of the Rocky Mountains, visiting some of the most rugged and remote wilderness of the region – Height of the Rockies Provincial Park. Located along the spine of the continent, and rich in history and wildlife, this region also boasts unique geology and some of the most dramatic mountain wilderness scenery found anywhere in the Southern Rockies. With soaring mountain peaks, beautiful river valleys and abundant forests and alpine meadows, it is home to the iconic Mount Joffre, which stands at an impressively high elevation of 3449m elevation, soaring above the valleys below. Learn more about Height of the Rockies here. The final route will depend on access and trail conditions as we get closer to the summer.

See for yourself what a trip is like in this short video here or read past participant blogs on the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy trip or the Hornaday Wilderness trip.

Wildsight would like to thank the Province of BC for their support of Go Wild! in 2019.

The cost for the trip is $500, including tents, stoves and all trip meals (participants provide their own trail snacks). We have gear (backpacks, sleeping bags, rain gear, etc.) available to lend upon request and a limited number of bursaries available. While participants must be able to demonstrate a base fitness level sufficient for the trip, we strongly encourage participation from those with little or no backcountry experience.
