Wildsight Elk Valley (WEV) is seeking two individuals for a Work Experience Opportunity at the Local store in Fernie, funded by United Way BC’s Work Experience Opportunity Grant (WEOG).
This position will be supervised by the Local Store Manager, who will provide hands-on training and ongoing support.
Position Details
- Eligibility: Must currently receive income or disability assistance in B.C.
- Term: August 1, 2026 – December, 2026 (5 months)
- Hours: 240 total hours (approx. 12 hours per week)
- Stipend: $3,600, paid in installments. Participants are responsible for their own taxes.
- Vacation Pay: Not included
- Sick Leave: Not included, but accommodations will be made for illness or appointments
- Work Schedule: 3 to 5 shifts per week based on individual abilities and availability. Shifts occur between 11:00 AM and 5:30 PM, Tuesday to Saturday.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily tasks: opening/closing, cleaning, temperature checks, vendor updates, and end-of-day reports
- Collaborate with team members and volunteers
- Provide excellent customer service by answering questions about Local products,vendors, and WEV programs
- Assist with product intake, pricing, shelf stocking, and maintaining clean and appealing displays
- Manage inventory: rotate stock, check best-before dates, receive deliveries, and organize storage areas
Training & Support
The Local Store Manager will provide training for all aspects of the role and ongoing support throughout the work experience.
