Work Experience Opportunity: Marketing and Social Media – Elkford

Wildsight Elk Valley (WEV) is seeking one individual for a work experience placement supporting our Keeping Food Real program—an online cold-climate gardening course. Funded by United Way BC’s Work Experience Opportunity Grant (WEOG), this role will help expand the reach and impact of the program through marketing and communications.

This position will be supervised by a volunteer board member with a professional background in marketing and communications, who will provide hands-on training, learning activities, and ongoing support.

Position Details

  • Eligibility: Must currently receive income or disability assistance in B.C
  • Timeline:
    • July–August 2026: Recruitment
    • September 29–October 10: Training, learning activities, and planning
    • October 16–November 28: Remaining work experience hours with ongoing support
  • Work Location: Elkford Chamber of Commerce Co-working Space816-A Michel Rd Unit 2, Elkford, BC V0B 1H0
  • Compensation: Stipend of $3,600 paid in installments. Participant is responsible for filing their own taxes.
  • Hours: Approximately 240 total hours over 8–10 weeks (flexible scheduling)
  • Vacation Pay / Sick Leave: Not included. Accommodations can be made for illness, appointments, or other access needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a marketing calendar
  • Design and schedule materials for:
  • Online ads
  • Social media content
  • Email marketing campaigns
  • Word-of-mouth marketing strategies
  • Support promotion of Keeping Food Real to increase paid enrolments
  • Contribute to updates of course content (cold-climate gardening, preserving, permaculture, cooking)
  • Track performance using tools like website analytics, social media insights, and email reports
  • Collaborate with the supervisor to evaluate and reflect on progress and learning goals

Training & Support

This position is supervised by a WEV board member with a marketing business who provides communications support to the organization. They will offer:

  • Hands-on training
  • Multimedia and tech support
  • Referrals to further learning, volunteering, or employment opportunities
  • Midpoint and end-of-placement feedback sessions to ensure the experience aligns with the participant’s personal goals

  • We see it as a success if this placement leads to other opportunities for the participant in the future
