Stories in the Wild: Animal Tracks & Signs

Bring wildlife tracks to life for your students
Grades: K-4
Seasons: All
Supplies: Track sheet, lesson plan, supplemental materials

This comprehensive resource package creates the perfect framework for storytelling, investigation, imagination, and FUN — all found in nearby nature. Students learn so much from investigation and play. When you can’t find tracks and signs outdoors, this interactive sheet brings wildlife stories to life wherever you are! With supporting lesson plans, activities and games as well as a handy teacher backgrounder, you will be ready to take your students on a learning journey in, and out, of the classroom.

This classroom resource for students in Kindergarten to Grade 4 was made by educators for educators. The sheet combines science with story thanks to carefully-crafted, scientifically accurate track marks alongside imaginative story lines. Accompanying resources include background information on identifying tracks and signs, different movement patterns and gait, interactive storytelling, and handy laminated animal photo cards.

This resource is available for purchase in the Outdoor Learning Store; proceeds will support Wildsight’s environmental education programs.

Wildsight Education Coordinator Jill Jennings and Wildsight Educator Patty Koesnichenko showcased this new resource in a free virtual workshop hosted by the Outdoor Learning Store on February 20th, 2024. Watch the recording:
