We're Hiring: Sustainability Assistant

Are you a College of the Rockies student looking for part time employment that works around your schedule? Do you have a passion for the environment and are interested in gaining experience with the Wildsight Kimberley/Cranbrook Branch?

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Sustainability Assistant will become part of the Wildsight Kimberley/Cranbrook team and work toward the common goals of the organization. The main responsibilities will include assisting the Branch Manager, and Communications & Fundraising Coordinator, with project specific guidance provided by the Sustainability Coordinator, and Program Coordinator. In this role, the student will be involved in:

Helping with the Apple Capture project, Kimberley Community Garden, Spooner Park and Outreach activities by:

  • Maintaining harvesting and processing equipment.
  • Leading the community, schools, and volunteers through program activities, tours, educational activities and maintenance efforts.
  • Maintaining the equipment booking program.
  • Maintaining the garden by harvesting, winterizing and spring preparation.
  • Planning and implementing community events and annual fundraising events.
  • Engaging with the community at outreach events.
  • Helping with additional tasks as needed.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Interest in local food and sustainable practices.
  • Interest in Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook’s local initiatives.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work alone, in a team environment, and with volunteers.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and strong time management skills.

MUST HAVES:

  • Be a post-secondary student at College of the Rockies and aged 16 or older before the start date.
  • Hold a current Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification or commitment to be certified.
  • Have the ability to travel within and between Kimberley and Cranbrook.
  • Be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Have computer and internet access.

The position is based on 150 total hours starting in September 2024 and ending in April 2025. Work hours are flexible with the student’s schedule and expected work tasks ranging from 1 minimum – 15 maximum hours per week for an average of 4 hours per week. Pay starts at $19.00/hr.
