Golden Community Loves Old Growth

Posted on

On September 28, Wildsight Golden facilitated an event to correspond with the provincial day of action against old growth logging.

A group of community members gathered at Golden’s Spirit Square to collectively complete a painting created by Alana Jung, a local artist. Alana broke her painting down into pieces which corresponded with a number in a paint-by-number style of painting. Each number corresponded with a colour and a message about old growth logging.

Many provincial organizations such as the Sierra Club and the Wilderness Committee, along with Wildsight, stated that their goals for the day of action were to remind residents about the Old Growth Strategic Review and inform what commitments are still not fulfilled 3 years after the report was released.

Our goals for the day of action were to remind residents about the Old Growth Strategic Review and inform what commitments remain unfulfilled.

Along with the painting, Wildsight Golden provided postcards on which residents wrote what old growth means to them and urged the government to fulfill its promise to save our ancient forests.

The completed painting and postcards were mailed to Premier David Eby this week.
