The third instalment in our “community building” series will look at Sense of Place.

Sense of Place refers to a feeling of belonging, understanding and connection with a place. It’s the uniqueness of character and identity that creates lasting connections between people and places. And the more we understand and experience a place, the deeper sense of place we will develop.

But how do we characterize that feeling?

Does the Columbia Valley’s new brand “it’s time to unwind” resonate with you?

How do you connect with your place?

How can we strengthen this connection for everyone in our community?

Encouraging a deeper sense of place through events and infrastructure is often referred to as place-making. As a multi-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of public spaces, place-making groups and organizations are popping up all over the world focusing on encouraging a deeper sense of place amongst their citizenry.
