Gibraltar Mountain Lookout: Bighorn Sheep Habitat Protected

Posted on

Earlier this year, we wrote about a proposal for a lodge at Gibraltar Mountain Lookout. We asked you to submit comments to Front Counter BC to oppose this lodge, which threatened winter range for Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep and their lambing areas. The lodge also threatened mountain goat habitat and feeding areas for grizzly bears.

Recently, the lodge proposal was denied because it “poses too great of a risk to critical wildlife and habitat, and there is no mitigation proposed”, specifically citing bighorn sheep, mountain goats, and grizzly bears. Your comments worked!

Sometimes, our input in government consultations feels like shouting into the void. But your comments do matter and they do make a difference for our wildlife and wild places. So thank you!
